Dean’s Award Given To Ira Glover

Dr. H.E. “Buddy” Payne presented the Dean’s Award to Ira Glover ‘08 (Tampa, Fla.) at the commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 1. This award’s purpose is to honor a student who has overcome unusually difficult circumstances.

Ira received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education earlier in the evening. He was given a long standing ovation as he met Dr. Payne to receive the award.

“I didn’t know it was coming,” Glover commented afterwards. “It’s a good feeling,” he said. “I feel like I conquered something. When you’ve done a lot and get recognized for it, it’s a big honor.”

Ira was converted in high school and persuaded to come to Florida College. He struggled to make good grades to the point of being placed on academic probation and leaving school. This difficulty only motivated him to try harder, however. He found success in the classroom-and direction in life-by working with children at the Florida College Academy and other area schools. He earned excellent marks every semester since his return to FC.
