Lydia Dickey

After Lydia Dickey finished two years at Florida College in 2003, she was torn about what to do next.

“I had already registered for fall courses at USF, but wasn't completely satisfied with my plans,” Lydia said. “The more I thought about the liberal studies program at FC and what it had to offer, the more I was convinced that this was the right program for me.”

The rigorous program gave Lydia a solid foundation that prepared her for the graduate program in mathematics education at Florida State University, where she graduated from in April.

“The presentations, papers, and even the thesis and portfolio I completed in the liberal studies program all gave me the experience and confidence I needed to successfully complete my graduate work,” she said.

While finishing her last semester in graduate school at FSU, Lydia also worked as a graduate assistant on various research projects. Her research included the integration of mathematics and technology as well as the history of mathematics, particularly the use of Babylonian tablets to design lesson plans.

Lydia currently teaches middle school math at the Florida College Academy.
